"Do You Have Room?" - D and C 25:12 - December 5, 2022
Hey everyone! Happy Monday! And happy December! Kinda crazy it's almost the new year.
Tuesday we learned a lot about family history! A sweet sister in the ward helped Sister Livingston and I! It was so much fun! We found out that Sister Livingston is related to a line of Scottish kings and that I am related to Charlemagne! Pretty cool! We also got back in contact with a lady we met a couple weeks ago! Her name is Lani! We were stopping by one of her neighbors but as we passed her house she was outside on her porch! So, we stopped and talked. She let us know her work schedule so we are planning to stop by later this week!
We had exchanges with the Clarksburg sisters from Thursday to Friday. It was awesome! I was in Clarksburg with Sister Belliston! We came out together so it was a lot of fun being companions for the day. She is such an amazing missionary! We got to do some service, handing out lunches for the homeless. We had an interesting conversation with a guy who came to get some food. He has a lot going on in his life, so Sister Belliston and I just listened to what he had to say. He seemed grateful that we did! Later we were driving around trying to find one of their friends' houses but it was nowhere to be found! We looked down the entire street and the surrounding streets but the house was simply not there. It was wild. Well, there's actually two streets with the same name and we were just on the wrong one! It was funny! We also stopped by a member's home. Her name is Cindy. As we were talking I noticed she kinda had a scottish accent. So, I asked her if she was from Scotland and she said yes! It was so cool! She talked about a couple of places I recognized because my cousin is currently serving there! He has served in some of the cities where her ancestors are from. It was epic! She also lived in Okinawa, where my family lives, for a couple of years. It was cool to make those connections with her! It was a little miracle from Heavenly Father.
While on exchanges we also go to attend the Bridgeport Light the Tree event! So amazing! It was fun! There was Christmas music playing and even though it was freezing outside somehow it felt warm, too. We got to talk to a couple of people and share the Light the World campaign with them! I am so grateful to be serving during this happy and joyful season of Light!
We had a great lesson with Donald and Ashley on Friday! We read Moroni 10 and talked about receiving answers from the Holy Ghost. The Spirit was so strong! We also read a little bit from Joseph Smith-History. We related how Joseph pondered and was diligent in seeking his answer. We testified to Donald that as he continues to seek his answer the Lord will provide! Donald also opened up about what was holding him back. He wants to figure it all out first. Well, that's where faith needs to step in. Please pray that Donald will be humble enough to accept help from the Lord!
We also had a church tour with Bill! Sister Meyers joined us! She was awesome! She jumped right in and was explaining everything about the church. It was perfect! We again asked Bill if he would set a date to work towards for baptism but he again declined. He just wants to be in a better place first. We did give a strong invitation for church though! At 9:30 am Sunday morning, we knocked on his door and he was ready! So, Bill came to church!!! It was amazing.
On Saturday we had the opportunity to attend the Clarksburg Stake Christmas Music Fireside. It was beautiful. One of my favorites was sung by Sister Fidler from the Fairmont Ward! She sang "He is the Gift" and it was gorgeous! I love the spirit that can be felt during Christmas Time! I wish you all could have been there to hear the songs!
Song of the Week: "Do You Have Room?" by Shauna Edwards. This was my most favorite song from Saturday night. Sister Fetner, also from the Fairmont ward, sang this song. I started crying! I have been thinking a lot about my relationship with the Savior. What room am I making for Him in my life? I loved what Sister Cordon talked about last night in the First Presidency Christmas Devotional. She said something along the lines of "Mary knew the gift she was bringing, but no one would make room." There in that little town of Bethlehem, no one would make room for the Savior of the World. But, we can make room for Him in our lives! Even though this is a busy season, we can make time to remember why we celebrate. "When we celebrate the spirit of Christmas, we celebrate the Spirit of Christ." (I'm not sure who said that but I've heard it a lot this past week. It's also paraphrased.) Now to the scripture. Music is a form of worship. I love music so much! Singing, especially during the Christmas season, helps me remember Jesus Christ. He is the reason we celebrate! We can all make room for Him.
I hope you all have a happy week! Talk to y'all next Monday!
Love,
Sister Sariah Francis
