"Butterflies" - October 24, 2022
Oh, hello everyone!!!
We had a fabulous week here in Fairmont!
We met with Donald and Ashley on Tuesday!! We taught them about baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost and Enduring to the End. It was a great lesson. Donald had some questions about baptism! Sister Livingston and I were a little nervous because sometimes his questions can be pretty complex, however, each question he asked we knew how to answer it!! I know that the Lord was watching over us and guiding us. Ashley asked some questions, too, about our missionary service. We invited them to read more about the baptismal covenant in Mosiah 18! I am super excited to teach them again this week!!
Also on Tuesday, Sister Livingston and I had planned out our whole day. We were super excited for what we had!! Around 4:30-5 ish we just felt like there was something else that needed to happen. We decided to visit someone (I can't remember who we had decided to visit) and Google maps started taking us down a little WV side road. It was paved at the beginning but turned into the gravel, 4 wheel track. We stopped and parked our car and again asked each other what we should be doing, clearly visiting the person previously decided on was not the thing to do. We prayed and felt inspired to knock the couple houses around us. An old lady answered one door and asked if we were "Witnesses" referring to Jehovahs Witnesses. We said no we are from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints! To which the lady replied, "yes that's what I said." She then told us Jesus was in her house and not outside. We aren't quite sure what she meant by that, but we just said goodbye and walked away. The next 4-5 houses we knocked were either not interested or didn't answer. But then! The last house was a nice lady who accepted a pamphlet from us! That made it all worth it. I'm glad Sister Livingston and I ended up down that holler. I know the Lord guides and directs us!
We met one of the sweetest grandma's this week! She's an older member of the ward who recently had surgery done on her hip. We stopped by and visited with her and her daughter. She was so happy about everything! She just was lying in her bed with a hurting hip, smiling and wearing a bright pink sweater! She told us about when she and her husband had served a mission in North Dakota! It was amazing listening to her!
We had exchanges with the Morgantown Sisters this week!! I stayed here in Fairmont with Sister Webb! She is so funny, haha!! We had a great lesson with our new friend Tracey! We taught her over the phone and discussed the Gospel of Jesus Christ with her. Sister Webb shared some amazing scriptures! It was powerful. Also, there's a thing in the West Virginia Charleston Mission about skinning squirrels and raccoons. Well, Sister Webb has really wanted to skin a racoon. While we were driving she saw a road kill racoon lying on the side of the road! We pulled over because she wanted to look at it. AND THEN SHE PICKED IT UP!!!! I was in shock!! Don't worry, she had a plastic bag so she didn't touch it with her bare hands, but STILL!!! It was so yucky!!! West Virginia is certainly very wild.
Saturday was a lot of fun! We had a trunk or treat with the Mannington Branch! It was so much fun!! They had dinner, games and Trunk or treating! Sister Livingston and I decorated our trunk with some streamers because that's all we had, haha!! It was still a lot of fun!!
Sunday was amazing! It was definitely a harder week out here in the field, even though there were still so many miracles! I was feeling a little down about it all yesterday. Well, one of the speakers for sacrament meeting stood up and simply testified that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know and love each of us. He then told a story of him and his daughter that reminded me of my dad and I when I was younger! It was incredible! That small "flash of light" was exactly what I needed. I know that Heavenly Father is aware of me! I know He is watching over me.
Song of the Week: "Butterflies" by Johnny Stimson. This song is cool because it talks about how we are like little caterpillars in our chrysalis about to become Butterflies! Sometimes that's how life can feel. We can't seem to go very far or move very fast. But once we let the Savior mold us and shale us to who He needs us to be, we can become Butterflies and go everywhere!! We can become new creatures in Christ.
I hope everyone has a fabulous week! Talk to y'all next Monday!
Love,
Sister Sariah Francis
