"Learn of Me" - July 4, 2022
Hello everyone and Happy 4th of July!!!
I realized I haven't updated you all on Katie! She is doing AMAZING! We had a really good lesson with her on Tuesday. We went over and had lunch. Our lesson was going great! But, then Katie began asking questions. Don't worry! This was a good thing!! We ended up going very in depth with the Plan of Salvation, temples and Eternal Marriage. It was so wonderful! She talks with her boyfriend about the church, a lot. So then, when we meet with her, she tells US things instead of the other way around! She is sooo excited for her baptism! It's July 23rd!! Katie also came to church yesterday and almost bore her testimony! After church the elders in our ward had a baptism so she stayed and watched!! I love Katie so much and she is so ready for this change in her life! Please keep praying for her!
We met with Melissa on Wednesday. Krista was still at work, but it worked out because we just went over what we'd shared on Sunday! That morning we had sent the Washington DC temple video to both of them and Melissa had watched it! When we came for the lesson everything made sense to her because she could visualize it all in the temple! It was super cool and exciting! I don't think I mentioned this last week but Krista and Melissa are no longer on date because they still need to have a few more lessons and obey the Word of Wisdom. But! They still have a desire to follow Christ's example and be baptized! They will get there soon! We aren't sure how Shawn feels about it all. He was at church last week and listened to our lesson with Krista but we haven't seen him since them. Please pray for all three of them!!
Thursday we had a lesson with James and Kayla!! It was SO GOOD! We talked about the Plan of Salvation and they were so excited about it! For James, he agreed with it all! We kinda put what he believes into a clean, clear and concise way of looking at this life! He was so happy!! Kayla talked about how this plan was way better than what she had been taught to believe! Well, that tends to be how the gospel is. It's a gospel of joy, hope, peace, love, truth, and everything that is good! They also came to church yesterday! That was a huge miracle! They came a half hour late but they still came! And they stayed for the baptism, too! Yay!! So many exciting things!
On Friday we met our new mission president and his wife! President and Sister Lindahl! It was so wonderful! They are from California and he likes to surf. He told us he had been surfing just 2 days earlier, haha, right before they came to West Virginia! As soon as they walked into the chapel, I knew they were supposed to be here. They now hold the priesthood keys to lead this mission! Sister Lindahl spoke to us about loving others. It was powerful. We can't help convert people unless they feel our love for them and the Savior. President Lindahl talked about being happy! This work is a happy work! If we aren't happy while doing it, how can we do it??? It doesn't mean that we should be grinning from ear to ear each time we go knock doors and get them slammed in our faces! It means we feel joy each day because we are here for Jesus Christ, we are here because we love Him - that is where we find our happiness. Not everyday will be perfect! In fact most, if not all, of our days never go as planned but we still have joy! I am so excited to have this opportunity to work with them! They are so amazing!
We have transfers this week! I will be staying in Beckley for at least 6 more weeks! This means I'll be here for 6 months! Kinda crazy to think about! Sister Spaeth and Sister Wilkins are both going home. They have completed their time as missionaries!! I am so sad to see them go. I'm going to miss them a lot. I will just be getting one companion, next transfer! I'm not sure who she is yet but I'm sure she is amazing!
Saturday and Sunday were some crazy days! We had District Council and then visited Sister Goodson in Oak Hill. She is so sweet and was so excited to see us!! That made me happy. It also rained a TON! We got soaked within seconds! After church we watched the baptism of Mark and Samuel! It was so exciting and made me look forward to seeing Katie and our other friends being baptized! We had "linner" with the Buchanans and the Polks! Then we had dinner with Sister Jackson and Sister Light! I love them members here in Beckley! This is a great place to be.
*Shout out to my mission daughter, Sister Morales! Love you lots!*
Song of the Week: "Learn of Me" by Janice Kapp Perry. I've thought about this song a lot over the past 10 months. Then, on Friday, President Lindahl said his favorite scripture was Doctrine and Covenants 19:23-24! This song is all about verse 23 and the beginning of 24. But, the second half of the 24th verse says, "I came by the will of the Father, and I do His will." I'd like to change this a little. As missionaries we come by the will of Jesus Christ, and we "do His will." I'm grateful to be a missionary for Him. If you'd like to learn more about coming closer to Jesus Christ, please message me!!
I hope you all have a "firework" week! (Meaning an exciting and happy one.) Talk to y'all next Monday!
