"Steady" - May 30, 2022
Hi family and friends!!
It has been an absolutely amazing week here in the WVCM!
First, transfers were on Thursday!! Sister Wilkins and I drove to Charleston and picked up our new companion, Sister Spaeth! She is the best!!! We have already laughed so much, made inside jokes and just had a great time!! I am VERY excited for this transfer!! Also, both Sister Spaeth and Sister Wilkins are on their last transfer!! It is so crazy! Time flies as a missionary!! These things don't last forever, so we gotta enjoy every moment!
A couple of quick thoughts - I've thought a lot about time this week. I recently hit my "halfway" mark as a missionary. I was thinking about what I have accomplished for the Lord as His missionary. Am I wasting my time? Or am I doing good here? The quote from Mr. Lizard in the live-action Cinderella kept coming to my mind. "Enjoy it while it lasts." I'm just a girl here in West Virginia, but Heavenly Father is helping me become so much more! I am here for a reason! I'm not wasting my time because I am helping people come closer to Christ.
We had a cool miracle this week! We have an allotted amount of miles we can use each month on our car. Each area has a different amount. We have 1200. Well, last Wednesday we had 260 miles left for the month. Going to Charleston would take 150, district council in Montgomery would take 100 miles and then we had 10 miles to use for the last 5 days of the transfer. Our area in Beckley is pretty spread out, so only having 10 miles was a little scary to think about... Not to mention we had already been walking as many places as possible because we knew we would need the miles for other things! Well, when we are obedient Heavenly Father blesses us! Thursday night, after transfers, our district leader called and asked if we could do District Council on zoom the next day! WHAT?! That just saved us 100 miles! It was such a blessing! So, because of this we have miles to do what we need to do before it all resets on June 1st. God is a god of Miracles!
But, now let's talk about the week! Tuesday and Wednesday were amazing! We met with Katie and talked about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Katie basically said she would like to be baptized! Oh my goodness!! It was amazing! We don't have a date set for it but we are going to discuss it more with her later this evening!
We had a great lesson with Krista and Melissa on Wednesday! Krista is so prepared and ready for this message! We talked about the importance of church, the power of prayer and why we need to read the scriptures. It was so cool! The Spirit was present! About 3/4ths of the way through our lesson, Melissa's son, Dillon, began asking us questions about what we believe, our missons and everything! We answered each question and hopefully helped him understand it all! During all of his questions the Word of Wisdom was brought up. We talked with Krista, Melissa and Dillon about how we don't drink, smoke, do drugs, drink coffee and tea, and do our best to be healthy and clean! It was a great talk! Krista and Melissa were both willing to stop their Word of Wisdom addictions! We are going to start helping them with it this week!
Misty is doing ok. The adversary is working very hard against her. We just hope we are able to bring some light and joy into her life each time we come by.
After transfers on Thursday we went by Sister D's home and helped her with some service! It was so much fun! We helped clean her Airbnb. I swept the front and back porches and there was a soft rain falling, oh it was beautiful!!
Song of the Week: "Steady" by For King and Country. This song has been in my head all week! I love it because only through Christ do we remain Steady through the storms of life. As the daily struggles of missionary life come and go each day we just have to keep working hard and move forward with faith. Christ is the head of this work and He will guide us through these storms!
I hope everyone has a fun week! Talk to y'all next Monday!
