"It is Well With My Soul" - April 4, 2022
Oh, what a glorious week!! And one of the best parts was hearing from our latter-day Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson!!!
So, last Monday was District P-day! We hiked a beautiful overlook to the New River Gorge Bridge! It was absolutely wonderful! We had a fun time as a district, laughing and talking. Sister Smith and I talked with Elder Allred, a lot. It was great getting to know him more. So many cool things to do and be in the world!! I'm so glad we are all created differently, with different talents, interests and likes. If we were all the same this world would be a sad place to be! After the hike we went to Tudor's Biscuit World! If any of you ever come our to WV you MUST go there! Their biscuits are delicious!!!
Misty is doing ok. She is going through a hard time and definitely needs prayers. Please keep her in your hearts this week! As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we know how much this gospel can bless peoples lives. I know it can help Misty, so please pray she will continue to be receptive to this message!
On Friday, we had district council! The Zone Leaders, Elder Adams and Elder Rausch, came and taught a wonderful lesson on extending commitments to our friends and following up on them! Afterwards, we had exchanges with the Sister Training Leaders! Sister Johansen came to Beckley with me and Sister Smith went to Charleston with Sister Evans and Sister Wilkins! It was the best!!! Sister Johansen and I had some great conversations that helped me see how I can become a better disciple of Christ and missionary for Him. This was also my second exchange with her! I was able to have one in Barboursville and now here in Beckley!! I love her so much!!!
Saturday and Sunday, we had General Conference! I loved it! We were able to hear from our modern day prophet, Russel M. Nelson, along with his counselors and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is set up in the exact way Christ's New Testament Church was set up. In fact, it is the same church He set up when He was here on the earth! And this past weekend we were able to hear what He would have His prophet say to us. One of the talks that really touched me was by Elder D. Todd Christofferson, a member of the quorum of the twelve apostles. He talked about how we cannot demand answers from God, our Heavenly Father. He knows when the time is right for us to receive the answers we are seeking. He compared it to a vending machine. We can't just walk up, look at the options, punch in our order and take what we've asked for. Answers from Heavenly Father don't work that way. Everything happens in His timing! He is in control. Recently, I have been asking for answers to some questions I have had. I often get frustrated when I don't receive the answers right away. But, after listening to Elder Christofferson, I realized I have been doing it all wrong. We can't be demanding of God and then become angry with Him when things don't happen how we want them done. He is our Heavenly Father. He can see the full picture, the broader view, whereas we can only see the object in front of us, a very small portion of the masterpiece. We need to trust in Heavenly Father's timing. He will answer!! And that is the wonderful news that we should always remember. I invite you all to watch, read or listen to Elder Christofferson's talk!
Song of the Week: "It is Well With My Soul" arr. Mack Wilberg. This was one of the songs sung by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square during the Sunday Morning Session of General Conference. I remember hearing this song for the first time a few years ago when my mom played it for our family. Hearing again yesterday brought me peace. "It is well with my soul." Though trials come, though storms pass over head, Christ is walking by our side. He knows what we are going through, so we can look to Him for Peace and Comfort. It was definitely not the most eventful week as a missionary, either. But I know that Christ can calm my troubled heart, when I feel weighed down. He Lives!!!
I hope everyone has a peaceful week! Talk to y'all next Monday!
