"Reverently and Meekly Now" - November 8, 2021
Hello, hello, family and friends!
Last Monday, David messaged us and said he was in the hospital. We went over with Brother West, a member in the ward, and he gave David a blessing. Sister George and I were both hoping something spectacular would happen that would help him understand the Priesthood Power. But, alas, nothing changed. The Spirit was present but no lightning came, no floods happened. Sister George and I were kinda confused afterward. We talked about it on the way home and the Spirit whispered to both of us that things happen in the Lord's timing. David will understand when it is time for him to.
Sister George and I have both been humbled this week. On Tuesday, we had either dropped or were dropped by most everyone we were teaching. We had ZERO people progressing and no one to teach. It was terrible. We had decided to stop teaching David for a little bit because of his health. Brother Custer called and told us Susan was in the hospital, so we couldn't really teach her. And everyone else was not interested in learning more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We continued to go about our usual missionary activities, praying something would happen. But Wednesday and Thursday came and went with no success.
Well! That all changed on Friday! We had district council and were asked by our district leader to write on the chalkboard how many new people we were teaching, how many of our people had come to church, if anyone was set for a baptismal date and if anyone had been baptised. Sister George and I had ZERO'S in all four categories. It was depressing. All the other companionships were writing 2's, 5's, and 3's. And Sister George and I had 0. After district council, we talked in the car. We looked at our schedule and how we could improve. We pinpointed a few times during each day when we could be better about how we spend our time so that we could be out finding people to teach.
This led to us tracting, almost non-stop, for the past three days! On Friday, we had an hour and a half to knock on doors. Saturday we stayed out from 1-5:30 p.m. knocking on doors. Sunday we stayed out from 2-5:30 p.m. doing nothing but knocking on doors! In all honesty, nothing huge has happened from doing this. We have found only one new person to teach. But we know that the Lord knows what we are doing. He will bless us for our efforts as we do our best to follow Him and lead others to Him.
Within all of this finding, we met a really nice guy named Cory on Friday. He accepted a Book of Mormon. On Saturday we felt we should go back and knock on his door again. He wasn't home so we knocked on his neighbors' doors and then left. During Sacrament Meeting on Sunday, Sister George and I both felt we needed to go knock on his door again! We weren't sure why, especially because we were in the middle of church! Well, as the meeting went on the feeling got more and more intense. Sacrament meeting ended and we went to Sunday School but neither of us could sit still. We said a prayer and left the meeting to go knock on Cory's door! He answered and we asked if he had read the Book of Mormon. He had given it away. We went back to church and after the meeting decided we needed to go drop a Plan of Salvation pamphlet off at his apartment. He wasn't home so we left it on his door. This morning we both couldn't stop thinking about him. We decided we needed to knock on his door one more time. He wasn't home but we left a pass along card. Please pray for him!
Yesterday, guess who came to church?! David!!! It was an absolute MIRACLE! He said that after Brother West gave him a blessing last week he had fallen and cracked his rib! So, he had gone back to the hospital but was doing a little better. David told us that he had really felt he needed to come to church even though it had been a difficult week and his health wasn't the best. But he followed what God told him and had come to church! We set up a time to teach him this week! David is amazing!
Song of the Week: "Reverently and Meekly Now" Hymn 185 in the Church of Jesus Christ hymn book. The first verse of this song has made me think a lot about this past week. Christ has given me so much. He suffered for me just as much as He suffered for everyone else. He has given me this opportunity to be a missionary for Him. I need to do all I can to tell, teach and talk to everyone around me. I can give as He has given by sharing the message I have been called to teach.
I hope everyone has a fantastic week! Talk to y'all next Monday!
