October 25, 2021 - "Abide With Me!"
Family! Friends! Hello!
Last P-Day my companions and I had lunch at this funny little place called Hillbilly Hotdogs. I was super skeptical about eating there because it looked kinda old and run down. BUT! Oh man!! Probably one of the BEST hot dogs I have ever eaten!! And! That's not even the best part! They also had fried pickle spears! So yummy!!! I really enjoyed it and I want everyone to remember that first impressions are not what we should judge the world by. If anyone is ever in WV go to Hillbilly Hotdogs!!! I give it 5 stars, haha.
On Tuesday we had a lesson with David! We taught him the Word of Wisdom and were a little scared about how it would go. But nevertheless he took it really well! It was a little funny though because at first he was confused! He asked us why we don't drink coffee and tea because God said to eat anything that comes from the earth and coffee and tea come from plants. Sister Mira replied by saying tobacco and other harmful things also come from the earth. After that David just said he didn't do any of those things so they didn't count. We were able to clear things up for him though and he committed to keeping the Word of Wisdom for at least a week! When we go back we will check in with him! He is progressing really well and is still praying about baptism. My companions and I have concluded that he has received his answer, he is just waiting for something bigger. David will get there! He has incredible faith and loves the Lord so much!
On Friday before district council Elder Stratford, Elder Oilar, Elder Hansen, Elder Miner and my comps and I got together to practice our musical number for Sunday! It went well but afterward Elder Hansen just started playing other primary songs on the piano. The rest of us gathered around and sang! It was so much fun!!! We sang for about an hour all together. It was a blast! It reminded me of doing singing time in primary. I didn't think I'd miss it! But now I wish I could be back in primary learning the songs! So many good ones!!! After singing, we had our last district council as a district!! Three missionaries are going home and one is transferring! It will be very different next transfer! Speaking of transfers, they are this week! Sister Mira will be going home and Sister George and I will be staying here in Barboursville!
Sunday was wonderful! All the missionaries in the ward sang "A Child's Prayer." It went pretty well. It was Elder Stratford, Elder Oilar, the Zone Leaders (Elder Lillywhite and Elder Buckway), Sister George, Sister Mira and I with Elder Hansen on the piano. The Zone Leaders joined us because Elder Hansen's comp, Elder Miner, went home this past week! So, he is staying with the ZL's. The Elders were struggling a little so the bishopric started singing with them. haha! Kinda funny because there were more elders than sisters! My comps and I then taught Relief Society! We discussed two talks from the April 2021 General Conference. Elder Wong and Elder Bednar's talks.
Song of the Week: "Abide With Me" Hymn 166 in the LDS Hymn Book. I love this song. It was a harder week but this song brought me peace. The first verse says,
"The darkness deepens. Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me!"
Jesus Christ can comfort us when we feel alone. He comes when it seems no one else will. I love the scripture Alma 7:11-13. Christ suffered for us. He knows what we feel. He sacrificed for us because He loves us. I am so grateful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I know He lives and I know He loves me. I also know that He knows you and that He loves you! I am so grateful to be serving as a full-time missionary here in West Virginia, representing Jesus Christ.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Talk to y'all next Monday!
-Sister Francis
